Cloverhill Golf Club - Paul Is Medal Winner

Paul Kelly (14) was not long in finding his way to the winners enclosure by winning the second of the years Medal competitions. Paul a new member went round in a 7 over 76 for a winning nett return of 62 which was three shots clear of Seamus Tumilty (15) and Christopher McKay (12) who both finished with nett 65's. After 3 rounds of Golfer of the Year newcomer Gavin McErlean 133 pts leads the way by a point from Anthony Hillen with Mark Conlon third ,James Coburn fourth, Colin McParland, Paul McCoy, Daniel Hughes, Paul Murchan, Cathal Hughes , Patrick Devine, Jim McKay, Christopher McKay and Colin Pilkington make up the top six with tied scores. In all the best 14 scores out of the 20 counting competitions will be used in determining the Golfer of the Year.

Former Captain and former President Seamus McCoy is the sponsor of the Major to be played on Sunday next April 17. There is a fourball better ball on Easter Saturday or Sunday arrange your own partner. There is a 3 person stableford team event on Easter Monday.

The Seniors had a 3 man Scramble on Thursday with Seamus McCoy, Joe Hazzard, Noel Magill the winners from Raymond Kelly, Gerry McShane and Brendan Brown who finished second. There is an 18 hole stableford competition this Thursday.

The Friday Open Competition was blessed with the best day of the year weather wise so far. To go with the great weather "it was the early bird which got the worm" in every since of the word with two of the first threeball out took first and second place. It was a runaway win for Sean Conroy (19) who produced a front nine to die for of 27 points but could not sustain it over the back nine which produced 21 more points for a total of 48 points. Sean was bemoaning the fact that he had reached 19 for the first time the weekend previous but can have no worries now such is golf as he adjusts to playing off 16. Sean was a clear winner from his brother Jim who had 41 points one better than third placed Peter Fallon. The Friday Open entry is £10 or €12 GUI Card required.

The ladies are three weeks into their singles stableford league with Lady Captain Ann McGivern leading the way from Fionnuala Conlon. Helena McInerney is third and Maire Owens is fourth with three weeks remaining.
All juvenile members are reminded that free group coaching from PGA Professional Joe Frawley commence this Tuesday April 13 at 5pm
