Cloverhill Golf Club - Pierce Purcell Qualifers

 The Pierce Purcell team brought more success to the club when they clinched the fourth qualifying spot behind Tandragee, our neighbors Ashfield and the host club Portadown on Sunday. This is the first time the club has qualified for the Pierce Purcell so well done to team captain Paul Owens and his team of Joe Carroll, Robbie Norton, Joe Mackin, Paddy Malone, Seamus McCoy, Joe Hazzard, Seamus McGivern, Conor McGivern and current club captain Nial Smyth who teamed up with Raymond Flynn to shoot the days low total of 78. Cloverhill will face Tandragee in the matchplay with Ashfield taking on Portadown.


The Ulster fourball team will play hosts to Down Royal on Sunday following their first round win over Temple. The Junior Cowdy team will take on Dungannon with the Rossmore team facing home and away legs with Mourne. The Sam Rutherford team will begin the defense of their Ulster title on Friday at Ringdufferin.


Despite all the inter club activity the club competitions continue. The weekend singles stableford was won by Graham McNally with 41 points which was one point more than Ollie Martin who was second. The Crash Repair Cup midweek 9 hole winner was Noel Magill with 24 points off the front nine green markers. This weeks 9 hole competition is off the back nine green markers. There will be a 2 person scramble this weekend, timesheet in operation.

 The rich vein of form from Jim McDonnell continued in the Seniors as he took the first round of the prestigious Maritime Trophy with a return of 41 points to fend of the challenge of Noel Williams by a point. Brendan Brown was the high section winner.  The draw for the Seniors matchplay took place with the defending champion Frank Quinn facing Frank Toal in the opening match in defense of his title.

Attention all members, entry to the club matchplay competitions will close on Sunday May 24. To enter put the £5 in the envelope with your name on it in the competition money box and put your name in the competition book.

St Joseph’s High School Annual Golf Classic is on this coming Saturday, May 16 with over 40 teams already booked on the timesheet. There are fabulous prizes on offer for both the GUI and Non-GUI sections and the success of last year’s event responsible for the popularity of this school fundraiser.  Contact the school with regards to participation.
