Cloverhill Golf Club - Frank Pellisou Wins Presidents Prize

President Mr Seamus McCoy enjoyed a most successful weekend with very large numbers participating for his prizes in mens, ladies and juvenile sections. Once again the top competitions attracted the best entries and also produced great competitiveness and scores. On Saturday morning the juveniles took to the fairways to begin proceedings and set the standards. Mark Garvey visited the winners enclosure for the first time this season followed by Christopher McKay with Conor McShane finishing third. The juvenile coaching these players are receiving is beginning to reap the rewards. The ladies were next into the fray where the winner was Anne Murphy with Mary Toal in second place.

The mens section produced a three way tie on 42 points for the beautiful Crystal Lamp first prize. There was a no contest when it came to the countback as Frenchman Franck Pellisou playing off a 27 handicap produced the best ever back nine holes score of 28 points to emerge the clear winner. With a poor return of 14 points for the front nine Franck must have thought that his hopes of the top prize were well and truly gone but everything went in the hole from the tenth onwards as he claimed his first Cloverhill victory. Shane Grant was second and Frank Quinn third both with 42 points also.

Declan O Neill 21 pts won the front nine with Conor McGivern 22 pts taking the back nine. A round of three over par secured the gross prize for Colin Pilkington. The Golfer of the Year chart is being headed by Joe Hazzard from Colin McParland, Daniel Hughes, Peter Byrne and Jim McKay.

Ross Collins is through to the club singles matchplay following successive 18 green wins over both Joe Pilkington and Colin Pilkington. Ross will play the winner of the Paul Owens and Miceal McGuinness semi-final. The all father and son pairs final between Brendan & Mark Hughes against Jim & Niall McDonnell will be played at 9 pm on Sunday next with the winners receiving a free passage to the prestigious International Pairs qualifier at Castleknock Golf Club, Dublin. The prize includes an overnight stay and a full 6 course dinner with a champagne reception on Thursday Sept 27.

Sunday next is the International Pairs qualifier with two spots to join the pairs matchplay champions, on the same trip to Castleknock, to be won.

Killeavy GAC are holding a golf classic on Saturday Sept 22 with valuable prizes. Timesheet in clubhouse.
