Cloverhill Golf Club - Stableford and Eclectic competition

The change in temperature saw the frost replaced by light rain on Sunday morning but it did not dampen the enthusiasm. The early starters played the full 18 holes in the eclectic competition but as the rain got heavier the later players just clocked in the 12 holes for the stableford competition. Club President Seamus McCoy has made an early season visit to the winner’s enclosure as his 27 points for the 12 holes saw him emerge the winner with two points to spare. Joe Carroll was second one point ahead of Joe Macken and Joe Hazzard. The stableford and eclectic competition will continue this week.

The mild weather has brought unusually good numbers for competition at this time of the year. The numbers swelled by the batch of new members who have joined the ranks for the coming year. Colin availed of the hard frost to get the diggers in to do some work to holes 5, 8, 10 and 11. It is great to see course improvements being carried out despite the economic doom and gloom that is being predicted for 2009.

Peter Byrne Captain’s Dinner is in the clubhouse on Saturday next Jan 17. Dinner will be served at 8-30 sharp. The meal will be followed by a few presentations i.e. golfer of the year, matchplay winners, Crash Repair Wed Cup and then the music will begin. All tickets have been sold.

The Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday Jan 19 at 8 pm sharp.
