Cloverhill Golf Club - Charlie and Maire start season off

Club Captains Charlie O Hare and Maire Owens hosted the drive-in to officially mark the start of the golfing season for club members. If their year in office goes as smmoth and straight as their respective ceremonial drives in front of the biggest crowd since the clubs inception then they both can be guarenteed a comfortable year at the helm.The traditional shotgun start was adorned with ideal weather as the teams went to occupy the tee-boxes for the three person scramble. When play was complete all were treated to snacks and beverages courtesy of Colin as the prizewinners for the Scramble and Spring League were presented by the Captains in their first official call of duty. The Scramble winners were Paddy Malone (15), Colm Trainor(15) and Pat Crossan (28). Sean Campbell (11), Christopher McKay (16) and Brendan Hughes (21) finished in second place. The first Monthly Medal will take place next weekend with the Byrne Monumental sponsored Major competition taking place the last Sunday of March. Timesheet for both is now open.

JIM IS INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION

Well known Dundalk personality Jim Conroy (19) is the Spring League Individual champion with a total of 95 points for his best three cards leaving him the clear winner With only four weeks played as one was lost to snow Jim hit 30, 31 and 34 points to achieve his winning total. Paddy Malone (15) and Anthony Murphy (19) were joint second on 88 points. Jim McDonnell (11) and Barry McKeown (26) were joint third on 86 points.

SEAMUS LEADS TEAM TO VICTORY

New member Seamus McParland (13) led his team Seamie Macs to a 6 point victory in the team Spring league. Seamus with Seamus McCoy (16), Joe Carroll (17), individual winner Jim Conroy (19), Declan O Neill (19), Brendan Hughes (21), Noel Magill (26) and Kieran McKeown (28) on board led the field from start to finish but had to withstand a late surge from Slide Robes. The runner-up team posted the best weekly score of the four weeks with their best 4 cards coming to 120 but it came all too late to deny Seamus a winning debut as team captain.

The penultimate round of the Seniors Spring League was played in glorious conditions last Thursday and the outcome for who will become the champion will go down to the fifth and final round this week. Oliver McDonald stormed to victory in Section Two well ahead of Brendan Brown.The Section One winner was the man who does all the work for the Seniors Noel Williams with Gerry McShane and Jim McDonnell joint second. Jim McDonnell leads the league with Vincie Gorman and Fr Cullen heading the chasing pack.

The house and finance committee have organized an envelope draw to be held on Easter Sunday. Members will be selling envelopes with tickets in them which cost from 1p to £5. The four winning tickets for the following prizes First £300 Second £150 Third £100 Fourth £50 will be drawn by club Captain Charlie O Hare on Easter Sunday. All proceeds from this draw will go towards the provision of a new driving net and an air compressor facility for the cleaning of shoes and trollies.
