Cloverhill Golf Club - 3 Person Scramble

The Sunday morning 3 person scramble brought in first time winners to the enclosure after a couple of them have had a few near misses previously. 3 provinces were spanned as Down man Anthony Boden, Louth man, Brendan Byrne and Waterford native Ivan Whelan combined to shoot a winning nett score of 59.5. Next week is a Major singles stableford competition annually sponsored by Michael McCourt of King Bruce Tavern, Francis Street, Dundalk. Entry for the clubs singles and pairs matchplays close on May 29.

The Wednesday 9 hole off the front nine white markers produced some terrific scoring. Benny Tierney, Pearse Murphy, Michael McBride, Brian Ryan were ally vying for top spot on 22 points but the leading smurfs were pipped by the papa of them all former club Captain and President Seamus McCoy who won with 23 points to go through to the grand final of the Newry Crash Repair sponsored Cup. Next week the back nine white markers are in play.

The Seniors opening round of the Maritime Trophy took place on Thursday. Category One was shared on 37 points between Jim McDonnell and Charlie O Hare with Noel Magill and Brendan Brown topping Category two. The draw for the singles and pairs match plays was made and there are some very interesting matches coming up over the next few weeks in the Seniors.

The Friday Open Competition was won with 41 points by Cathal Hughes who was a point ahead of last weeks winner Andrew Brodigan. Barry McKeown beat Heber McMahon into third place on the countback after both had 39 points. Friday Open Entry is £10 or €12 GUI Card required.

PGA Professional Joe Frawley's junior school of golf for members, continues on Tuesday's.

The team classic on Saturday was by far the best ever held on the course with some 56 teams taking part to raise much needed funds for the Clarke Clinic for children.
