Cloverhill Golf Club - Winter League is Back

The return to Winter League action certainly brought out the members on Sunday morning for week four of the 12 hole competition. Scoring was superb with 333 points from Anthony Hillen (9) taking top spot by a point from a trio of players. The Countback saw the following order prevail Second Brendan Heaney (17), third Raymond Martin (14) and fourth Raymond Flynn (10). The mixture of old and new members in this 12 hole competition is working well and the next two Sundays will see weeks 5&6 completed. This weeks winner Anthony Hillen has shot to the top of the individual table with 117 points three clear of Brian Ryan who is another three clear of third placed Stephen Markey. Liam Harte, John Byrne, Jim McKay, Declan O Neill , Niall McEnaney and Ollie Martin are the leading group in the chasing pack.

With three of their four returns in the 30+ points bracket this week it is no surprise that the team of Anthony Hillen, Benny Tierney, Seamus McCoy, Raymond Flynn, Frank McGovern, Seamus Keenan, Brendan Heaney and Christopher McKay have sprung to the top of the leaderboard with 436 points. The lead though is the bare minimum of one point as they are closely followed by Stephen Campbell, Stephen Markey, Brendan Byrne, Larry O Rourke, Liam Harte, James Coburn, Paul Owens and Ollie Reel. With 4 more teams in the 420+ points bracket there is a lot to play for over vthe next three weeks of competition. Some teams have been badly let down by team members failing to put in a card, any score is better than a no return.

The good weather on Thursday morning brought out a good number of seniors for the 3 Person Scramble. As it happened a not so Senior person in Kieran Crozier was present but was included in the draw leaving one team with 4 players duly handicapped. As it happened Kieran was picked on an already stacked team captained by Senior boss Noel Willliams which included Fr Cullen and last weeks winning debutant Raymond Kelly. Needless to say amongst great banter and slagging from second placed Pius Tierney, Brian Ryan and Jim McDonnell the four man team won the three man scramble. There will be a 12 hole singles stableford next Thursday at 10 am.
