Cloverhill Golf Club - PETER WINS GOLD MEDAL

Former club Captain Peter Byrne (18) was the winner of the Gold medal with a nett 69 giving him the honours in the 8 man final on Sunday morning. After a 12 over opening 9 Peter came home 6 over for an 87 total to beat Conor McGivern (17) who was consistant with 43 over each nine. The penultimate chance to qualify for the end of season champion of champions final on Oct 31 brought out the numbers and the scoring. For the second week running early leader Anthony Boden (19) who returned 41 points was nabbed at the death to be relegated to third spot. Pat Devine (21) brought home his best card of the year 42 to take the lead but was denied by 10 handicapper Sean Campbell who was around in 3 over for a winning score of 43 points. There will be a last chance to make the final on Oct 31 this Sunday when there is a 3 category singles stableford competition. The sheet for entries to the 4 week November league is posted in the clubhouse. This will be an individual as well as a team league and all new members are encouraged to take part. You can submit your card any day of the week Mon to Sun but it must be signed by a participating league member. Entries will close on Nov 7. Last week in reporting that Daniel Hughes (10) won the Golfer of the Year, I was incorrect in stating that he had won two in a row as my records show that it was his second in 3 years as Brendan Hughes was the winner last year. 20 of the club golfers are heading to Turnberry next weekend, lets hope that the wind off the Mull of Kintyre is not as stiff as the drink otherwise someone might fall over.
