Cloverhill Golf Club - Big numbers for Wed Cup
The Crash Repair Centre, Newry Wednesday Cup is attracting the numbers as members vie for a place in the 18 hole final at the end of August. On July 6 off the front nine white markers Paddy Malone (13) with 22 points pipped Martin McKeown (24) into second place on 21. The following week off the back nine white markers it took a terrific 24 points from Seamus Tumilty (13) to beat Andrew Brodigan (21) by a point with Andrew one better than Mark Shevlin (24). The front nine Green markers are in action this week.
The Sam Rutherford team will have to overturn an 8 hole deficit on Sunday next in their home leg fixture with Banbridge to earn a place in the semi-final of the competition.
There will be a 3 categories 0-14, 15 to 20, 21-28 competition next weekend with an overall winner and a winner from each section. An early reminder for members that the club fundraising 4 person team scramble will take place on Sat & Sun Aug 20-21. Get your teams in now.
The Tuesday Juvenile competition at 11 am was won this week by Conor Reel with John Reel second. Competition continues this week as the race for Juvenile Golfer of the Year hots up.
The penultimate round of the Maritime Trophy for the Seniors was played on Thursday and the results points to a very exciting finale. Noel Williams and Heber McMahon were tied first in Section One with Noel Magill heading Brendan Brown in Section Two. The leading placings going into the final round are as follows Noel Magill 111 pts, Charlie O Hare 110, Noel Williams, Joe Hazzard both 109, Eugene Creelman, Jim McDonnell, Heber McMahon all 107 with Fr Cullen on 102.
