The penultimate Monthly Medal saw Raymond Flynn visit the winners enclosure for the second successive week as he won through to the Gold Medal final in October. The tyning and sanding of the greens earlier in the week did not deter the scoring with 14 players within two shots of winner Raymond. A triple bogey at the third hole did not deter Raymond who was 7 over at the turn but 5 pars, a birdie and 3 bogey's over the back nine left the 16 handicapper 9 over for his round and a nett 62.Raymond was a winner by a shot to deny the improving Graham Johnston a first ever win. Still a second place finish on the countback from Jim Conroy will do his confidence the powere of good with a good few top wnd of the season competitions yet to be played starting with next weeks Major competition is kindly sponsored by SK Windows, Forkhill Rd, Cloughoge, Newry Tel; 30266238.
The steady stream of new members taking advantage of the fantastic membership offers currently available bodes well for the coming season and is testimony to the tremendous shape that the course has been presented in all year. The outlined Winter programme of further development for the course shows that the good work at continually making improvements is set to continue.
The pairs matchplay pairs final will see reigning champions Steve O Hara and Colm Trainor take on the young guns Danie Hughes & Christopher McKay. A birdie by Dan at the penultimate hole gave them victory over the Pilkington brothers Colin & David on Saturday.
The Friday Open saw Niall McEneaney from Dundalk hold off the challenge from Ashfield duo Shaun Aherne and Mickey Rushe to take the honours. Niall returned 43 points for a comfortable victory with Shaun second on 39 and Mickey winning a three way countback to be third with 38 points..The next open is Friday Sept 24 with an Entry fee of £10 or €12 for visitors and £5 or €6 for members.
