CLUB CLASSIC
The club fundraising classic on Sat and Sun was a great success with teams from all over taking part and only 2 Cloverhill members allowed on any one team. But the honour and glory went to four ladies who left some illustrious golfers in their wake as they strode to a very comfortable victory in the all GUI section.. With only 2 scores counting at all holes Roisin McGivern & Katherine Monaghan both Warrenpoint teamed up with club members Pauline McGovern & Ann McGivern to shot the lights out with a terrific score of 105 points. There were four teams tied on the next mark of 95 points as the Moan brothers Sean, Liam and Collie with Paul McCoy on board finished second with Liam Harte, Seamus Keenan, Eamon O Reilly and Ifalo Caffolo back in third place.
The non-GUI section was won with 95 points by Colin & David Pilkington, James Hanratty and Paudie Kindlon. The Louth village trio of Peter Smyth, Pat Devine and Cormac Gartland did not stay clear of all the hazards as they teamed up with Joe Hazzard to finish in second place with Raymond Flynn, Graham McNally, Martin McCartney and Tony Fenton third.Nearest the pins were won by Damien Rock, Mickey Concannon and Seamus McCoy. The Longest Drive one for each day went to Anne Murphy and Frank McGovern. The club would like to thank all who supported the Classic
NO THIRD SAM
The quest for a third successive Sam Rutherford is over as we just came up short at home to Tandragee in the quarter final. The burden of trying to make up a 19 hole deficit eluded us as we came up just short against a very good Tabndragee side who are also through to the Jimmy Bruen final. Four quarter final appearances at Inteclub and two qualifications from the qualifiers is great going for a small club
The last two Wednesday Cup winners were Shane Collins and Barry McKeown with play this week off the back nine green markers.
The Friday Open was a non starter until afterenoon because of the rain but it did not deter the afternoon players and produced top scores. Daniel Hughes (12) was the winner with 44 points one better than Christopher Lynch with Kieran McParland third with 38 points.
The next open is on Aug 6 with an Entry fee of £10 or €12 for visitors and £5 or €6 for members. Tee times must be booked.tel-02830 889374 G.U.I. CARD required. GUI Vouchers for the first three places.
