It must have been that the players were suffering from too much sun as the scores came hot and fast in the Mayday Stableford competition. The first card returned set the early high standard with Eugene Byrne (6) in with 40 points and was joined on that mark by Seamus McGivern (19) and James Coburn (19). Martin Reel (22) took over the clubhouse lead with 42 points but was soon knocked off top spot by Eugene O Callaghan by virtue of a better back nine. With Eugene poised to celebrate his first Cloverhill victory sixteen handicapper Peter Fallon went round in 7 over for a winning tally of 45 points. Next weekend is the May Medal competition.

The Jimmy Bruen team had no luck at Dungannon in qualifying relegated to fifth place with 3 teams remaining on the course. Lets hope for better luck for the Pierce Purcell team in qualifying action at Banbridge next Sunday.

The eagerly awaited Wednesday 9 hole Newry Crash Repair Cup competition commenced last Wednesday with the front nine Green markers in play. Past Captain Nial Smyth became the first qualifier for the final with his 23 points holding off nearest rivals Henry McCrink and Seamus Keenan both with 22 points. Play this Wewd is off the back nine Green.

The Seniors held a three man rumble on Thursday which saw Raymond Kelly, Noel Magill and Vincie Gorman take first prize. A Singles Stableford off the White markers will take place this Thursday.

The Friday Open Competition saw Raymond Kelly (14) continue his good form of the previous day by winning the first prize voucher with 43 points. Up and coming youngster Gareth Kilgallon was second with 40 points one more that third placed Fr Cullen who held off Mourne's Patsy Quinn on the countback. Friday Open Entry is £10 or €12 GUI Card required.

The Easter Tuesday juvenile competition brought two new members onto the winners rostrum filling the first two places. Jamie Duffy picked up his first piece of golf crystal relegating Aaron Rowland into second place with Cormac Smyth back in third place.PGA Professional Joe Frawley's junior school of golf continues on Tuesday's. Due to numbers lessons have to be split with the Senior boys taking the 5pm to 5-30 because of football commitments.
