Cloverhill Golf Club - CHRISTY REELS THEM IN

The opening Golfer of the year competition the March Medal brought record entries and produced some great scoring. The mixture of old and new members is certainly going to make it very hard to get on the winners pedestal this year if the standard set in this competition is anything to go by. Over 2 dozen cards returned carded a 68 or less and it was little wonder then that the winner took the Medal after a countback. New Member Gareth McErlene (18) was in fifth spot with a nett 64 while fellow débutante Paul Kelly (14) went one better to fill third place ahead of Louthman Pat Devine (20) also nett 63. Shane O Neill (12) and Christopher Reel (18) both finished with nett 62's with Christopher winning the first of the 8 medals on offer over the course of the year.

Next Sunday is the first Major Sponsored Competition of the Year and is as per usual kindly sponsored by Byrne Monumental (30 861256). The competition format is Singles Stableford with play confined to Sunday only. The beautiful array of prizes are on display in the clubhouse so don't forget to get your name on the timesheet.

The Captains Charity Hole for the year is the Par 3 Seventh in front of the clubhouse. A voluntary donation of £1 or €1 is to be put in the box situated in the Clubhouse from every player who misses the green while playing in competition. All monies accumulated will be given by Captain John Byrne to his chosen charity.

The Seniors will be back in action on Thursday after missing out last week due to St Patrick's Day. Tee time is 10 am.

The Juveniles convened for their first competition of the year on Friday last and it was Gareth Kilgallon who emerged the winner with David McKinley second and Jarleth Og Burns third. With a Ronan Rafferty match with Dungannon in the offing for the juveniles there is a lot of competition for places. There will be a Juvenile 12 hole competition comm @ 4-30 on Friday next March 25. All juveniles club members are asked to attend so arrangements for the free lessons with a PGA Professional can be finalised.

The development work on the course continues with new drains and pathways being installed and the new tee-box at the eighteenth being constructed. At the way things seem to be going competition wise on a Sunday morning it's new car parking space that will soon be needed.
The Friday Open Competition £10 or € 12 which proved very popular last year will commence on Friday April 1 until the end of October.

n early reminder of a very important fundraiser taking place on Saturday 14 May when there will be a four person team event £100 per team (inc food) in aid of The Clarke Clinic @ Royal Victoria Childrens Hospital. So keep that date clear to support a most worthy cause or reserve tee-times by contacting 0860412626 or 07513178268
