Cloverhill Golf Club - JUVENILES GREAT WIN
Holding a slender 12-8 lead from the home leg on Friday, Cloverhill juvenile Ronan Rafferty headed to Banbridge more in hope than expectation for the second leg on Sunday. Having given debuts to Conor McShane and Christopher Lynch in the home leg alongside team captain Micheal McGuinness, Neil Smyth and Christopher McKay to win the home leg against such a strong Banbridge outfit was considered a huge bonus. Ryan McGivern replaced Conor for the away leg where we needed 9 points of the 20 available in the 5 matches. The team played superbly annexing nine and a half points from the first three matches for a terrific win under the leadership of our current club captain Nial Smyth. The reward for victory is a match with Rossmore in the next round at dates to be arranged. There will be golf lessons and competitions on Tuesday morning for our juvenile members once the school holidays commence.
JOE IN NO HAZARDS
It was a case of avoiding real trouble or the hazards for our June Monthly Medal winner. Returning a nett 64 Joe Hazzard (18) emerged as the winner on the countback from Liam Moan with the other Moan brother Sean a shot further back in third spot. Joe takes his place as one of the eight finalists in October playing for the gold medal . Next Sunday is a shotgun start 3 person Scramble commencing at 9-30. The competition is open to all categories of club members so get your name on the timesheet to facilitate the smooth running of the event. There is already a near full timesheet for Captain's Day on July 12. The draw for playing times will be made on July 5. The opening rounds of both the singles and pairs matchplay competitions has been finished on time full marks to all concerned and hopefully the winners will proceed as swiftly to complete the next round.
The Sam Rutherford team traveled to Portadown on Sunday and came away with a one hole lead to take into the home leg on Sunday next at 2pm.
The Newry Crash Repair Cup midweek 9 hole off the back nine green markers produced a runaway winner in Louth village man Ollie Martin who accumulated 27 points. Next week play is off the front nine white markers.
