The August Medal attracted a very good crowd with only this one and two more to play to qualify for the Gold medal final in October.Early starter Steve O Hara (12) set a nett 63 as the target to beat but playing partner Robbie Norton (16) could have bettered that score but for a disasterous 9 at the last hole. Barry McKeown (21) and Conor McGivern (18) both returned nett 61 to topple Steve from top spot. Barry fell foul of Rule 6-6 (b) and got disqualified as well as losing 2 shots off his handicap leaving Conor (who would have won on the countback) as the August Medal winner.

The Fr Cullen sponsored major takes place this weekend with first second, third, gross, front & back nine prizes available for this singles stableford competition.

Just returned from holiday was the perfect tonic for Declan O Neill (18) as he won the Friday Open with 41 points to edge out Kilkeel 12 handicapper Johnny Mallon by a single point with Fr Kevin Cullen (15) a further point behind in third spot with 39 points.

The Ladies Tuesday Cup was a very close run affair with only a point seperating the top three finishers. Ann Murphy got the better of Margaret Culbert on the countback with both returning 36 points to fill the minor placings as the winning honour with 37 points went toAnn McGivern. The tenth and final round will take place next next week with only 2 points between 5 ladies as the vie to win the Cup.

The Newry Crash Repair Wednesday Cup saw Christopher Lynch pipped for the second week in a row. The downpour put paid to a lot of competitors who failed to cross the finish line. Christopher was in with 22 points but was then joined by Steve O Hara with the same points return but a winner on the countback. The front nine Green markers will provide the action this week in the Wednesday Cup with the last chance to qualify for the final the following week over the back nine Green.
