Cloverhill Golf Club - Vice Captain Colin takes the Sweep

It was the turn of Vice-Captain Colin McParland to claim the last of the Sunday 12 hole sweep competitions with his 32 points a winner by one from Seamus McCoy. James Coburn and Peter Smyth were next with 30 points. The 12 eclectic competition commences this week and will continue until the Captains Drive-In on March 11. There will be prize vouchers for the first 3 each week as well as for the top three overall. Play is over the entire week and repeat play is allowed. The same rules as the last eclectic competition applies.

The Seniors held a 12 hole competition on Thursday in which Seamus McCoy emerged as the winner with Eugene Creelman and Frank Ryan filling the minor placings. There will be another Senior competition with a 10 am start this Thursday.

After two weeks of the last person standing competition amazingly there are only three people left in contention following the strange set of results over the two weeks which saw a lot of fancied sides bite the dust. It was QPR who did the business for Brigid Pilkington while Club Captain Brian Ryan and Joe Pilkington made it through thanks to Sunderland winning. There is no play this weekend because of the Cup.

The heavy machinery has rolled in on site at Cloverhill to begin the development work aimed at extending the par of the course. New greens and a new layout are to be provided as well as new walkways. The course improvements are in keeping with the progression made by Colin since taking over the reins. The influx of new members and the return of some former members is testimony that the club is heading in the right direction, back boned by a very active and progressive committee.

There will be a meeting for the full committee on Monday Jan 30 in the clubhouse at 8pm.
