Cloverhill Golf Club - Noel Sails To Victory

Former club and ships Captain Noel Williams sailed to victory in the Sunday suingles stableford competition. The sprightly 74 year old who is master in chief of the clubs senior section as well as doubling up as club secretary produced a scintillating round of golf that saw him amass 46 points. There has never been a more popular competition winner than the affable Welshman whose contribution to the club cannot be measured. The good news for your senior playing partners is that it sees you cut from 21 to 19 Noel. Noel won from in-form Daniel Hughes who had 43 points and lost two shots off his handicap with Fr Cullen third with 39 points.

The Junior Cowdy team fresh from their great win at Ardglass played hosts to holders Edenmore on Sunday and came away with a terrific result, a 4-0 win and 11 holes up for the return match next Sunday. Jim Conroy and Larry O Rourke got us off to a winning start winning 1up. The second pairing of Raymond Flynn and Gene Hughes gave a marvellous display winning 7/5 to give us great holes up cushion to build on. Peter Byrne and Declan O Neill held their nerve at the last hole to win 1 up with the final pairing of Tony Fenton and Conor McGivern winning 2/1. Edenmore are not the holders by not being very formidable on home soil so there is still a lot to be done for us to claim the win.

The Sam Rutherford team play Armagh away on Sunday taking a slender four hole advantage into the game. The juveniles take on Armagh in the Ronan Rafferty at home on Tuesday and away on Friday.

The Crash Repair Wednesday Cup over the back nine off the white markers enabled Daniel Hughes qualify for the final as his 22 point return proved a winner over Stephen O Hara by the minimum margin..

There will be a Seniors Open competition on Thursday June 19 for tee-times contact 30 889 374.

The matchplay singles has seen a few shock results already recorded with the first round to be finished by this week.
