Cloverhill Golf Club - Very Close Start To League

Following the opening two rounds of the 10 team Spring League there is very little between the leading four teams. With the best 5 out of 6 cards to count each week for the team event only 3 points separates the top four.

The Crooners led by Vincie Gorman featuring with Joe Carroll, Joe Hazzard, Ivan Whelan, John Byrne, Anthony Hillen are leading the way on 364 points two clear of The Presidents Men team of Seamus McCoy, Colm Traynor, Raymond Flynn, Frank Quinn, Brendan O Rourke, Colin McParland .

Joint third are The Banner Brigade captained by Steve O Hara whose lineout includes Mark Hughes, Noel Magill, Mark Keogh, Gene Hughes, Seamus Fearon and Joe’s Army led into battle by Joe Mackin who enlisted the help of Anthony Boden, Brendan Hughes, Noel R Williams, Larry O Rourke, Seamus Tumilty. Both teams have 359 points. There are three teams within 4 points of 359 with the remainder needing a full compliment of players playing very well over the next three weeks if they are to get into the shake up.

It is imperative that each team captain gets his players out as any score no matter how poor it may seem is better than no score, especially with things tight at the top.

Joe Carroll on 85 points is leading the individual scores from Colm Traynor who has 81 and Mark Hughes with 80. Joe Mackin and Anthony Boden are next with 78 points. The best four scores out of five weeks will count in the individual competition.

The Seniors Thursday  12 hole Spring League saw Brendan Brown put his new driver to good use with his 30 points getting him off to a winning start from Noel Williams and Fr Cullen.

A proven bluffer throughout his footballing career paid off at the card table for Brendan Tierney as he won the fundraising Texas Holdem in the club on Sunday. Fully togged out with Stetson , dark glasses and a cigar Benny blew the opposition away beating defending champion St Pat’s Cooley supporter Gerry McShane in the head to head. Due to the great response and the success of the event another one will take place at 4pm on Sunday March 15
