Cloverhill Golf Club - Shane Grant is Matchplay Champion

Shane Grant (12) is the club singles matchplay champion for 2011. Shane birdied hole 17 for a 2/1 win over Anthony Hillen (12). Shane did the damage over the opening 9 holes by recording 9 straight pars for a 3 hole lead but despite clawing 2 back it was second year in a row heartbreak for Anthony in the matchplay.

PADDY MALONE STRIKES GOLD
The final of the Medal competition saw Paddy Malone (12) take the Gold Medal with a nett 66 in very testing playing conditions on Sunday morning. Seamus McCoy (16) won the singles stableford competition with 38 points. Raymond Flynn (15) was last weeks competition winner with 40 points. Next Sunday is the Gerry McShane sponsored 2011 winners competition. Play for Gerry's prizes is confined to Sunday with a subsidiary competition for all non qualifiers on Sat & Sun.

The weekend away trip to Carnoustie was blessed with mixed weather. Sunday was tee-shirt day while Monday it rained cats and dogs. It was a case of the experienced dog for the road with Jim McKay producing some great golf to get 37 points on the Sunday. This score was the best recorded on the links by anyone for 3 weeks according to the starter and on Monday Jim added another 30 to become the holder of the Weekender Trophy Plans are already afoot for next years outing.

The Seniors played. the third round of their 6 week 12 hole competition. with Heber McMahon and Vincie Gorman tying for first place with Sean Conroy and Eugene Creelman tying for for second place. Play will continue this week.
The Cloverhill last man standing competition commences this week with disaster striking an awful lot of entries given the results. Indeed there are only 11 players remaining for this coming week.
