Cloverhill Golf Club - SEAN CONROY WINS MAJOR

The single stableford Major competition this weekend was kindly sponsored by SK Windows, Forkhill Rd, Cloughoge, Newry Tel; 30266238 and produced some great scoring in perfect playing conditions. The early pace was set by the opening three ball with Shane Muckian (25) holding off the in-form Graham Johnston (27) by a point 41 to 40.Christopher McKay (12) and Shane Collins (19) and Seamie Fearon (20) all matched the leading 41 points. Louth villager Brendan Byrne (19) took over as leader with 43 points which held sway all day until the last group on the course produced the winner in Sean Conroy (20) who was only 3 over for his back nine holes for 25 points to go with 19 in the front to pip Brendan by a point. The Gross was won by Colin Pilkington (6) with 33pts while the front nine went to Shane Collins with 24 from Liam Harte (21) who had 23. The back nine was captured by Graham Johnston with 23. Christopher McKay won the countback for third place

There will be a 3 person Scramble with a draw on the half hour for playing partners on Sunday. Teams of 3 can also compete on Saturday.

The Friday Open saw the late afternoon starters dominate the placings with three home players taking the prizes. Peter Fallon (15) was only 2 over for the fromnt nine and finished with 45 points to take first place. Bridesmaid for the second competition in a row was Graham Johnston (27) who hit 43 points. Shane Muckian (24) edged out Greenores Kevin Gallagher (10) by a point with 37 to take third spot.
