Captain's Day at Cloverhill this week-end
This coming weekend is the big event in the Cloverhill Golf Club’s calendar with Noel R. Williams hosting his Captain’s Day and the official launch of the new club website.
The busy weekend will commence on Friday afternoon at 4pm when the club’s juvenile and student members play in competition for the Captain’s prizes in their particular category. The golf will be followed by food in the club house.
Then, at 9.30 the new club website will be launched and all the members and friends are welcome to attend.
From 7.00 a.m. to 11-30 on Sunday morning the men will be teeing off to try and make the top 12 qualifiers to play extra 9 holes at 5.30 to see who will win the honours
Tee-times are posted in the clubhouse or ring to find out your playing time. The ladies and guest will tee off after the men.
All participants and their partners are invited by the Captain to the prize giving buffet that night in the clubhouse at 9:30. Member’s co-operation is essential to ensure the smooth running of Noel’s big day.
Meanwhile, the Junior Cowdy team lost out to Castleblaney in the quarter final of the competition.
The first leg will be in Cloverhill on Saturday saw the visitors take a narrow one match lead for the return some 24 hours later in Castleblaney. After a good start by the team in the away match the home side gradually hauled back the deficits and took the first two matches to secure their place in the semi-final.
The Mulligan competition on Sunday was a terrific success with some great scores returned as members tune up for the big one. Four players Colin McParland, Mickey Concannon, Frank McGovern and Stephen Coleman finished with 41 points with Colin emerging as the winner by virtue of his 23 points over the back nine. Mickey was second with Frank third.
Jim McKay qualified for the Newry Crash Repair Wednesday Cup final on August 29th by winning the 9 hole competition last week with 21 points.
