Cloverhill Golf Club - Last Major Competition Of The Year
The last Major competition of the year sponsored by Gerry McShane, Trinity Print, Carlingford was blessed with sunshine which attracted the numbers and some very healthy scoring. Having threatened to visit the winners enclosure all year in a Major Sunday competition Seamie Fearon finally grabbed the top spot with a blistering back nine. Runner-up and a few minor placings all year after getting himself in a winning position paled into insignificance as he held it all brilliantly together over the closing holes to claim victor. The 24 handicapper was far from thinking about winning at the turn with a miserable return of 16 points but everything clicked into gear after the turn as he produced a professional performance that saw him rattle off 8 three pointers and a 2 pointer in a 4 over back nine of 38 for 26 points. Seamie’s total of 42 points by virtue of a better back nine condemned Colin McParland (10) into second place. Club President Seamus McCoy (16) finished in third place with 40 points. The respective nines were both won with 22 points as Mark Hughes (19) won the front and young Neil Smyth (18) winning the back with the gross prize picked up by Colin Pilkington (7).
The Individual 5 WEEK Winter League incorporating the following 3 categories 0-12, 13-19, 20-28 will commence on Monday 27 of October. The competition will run from Monday to Sunday each week with the best four cards out of 5 to count towards the individual honours in each section as well as the overall winner.
The committee will be holding their annual outing this Friday with the fabulous Concra Wood the venue. The club would like to wish Castleblayney Golf Club the best of luck with their new course. Concra Wood is a credit to all concerned and it is a treat for all golfers in the surrounding area to have such a marvellous course available to play on your own doorstep. It will not be long until it is ranked up there with the best in the country.
