Cloverhill Golf Club - Heavy showers

The heavy showers or the football failed to detract the numbers for the annual Fr Kevin Cullen singles stableford competition. Using our neighbours ,the fabulous luxurious Enchanted Spa and Retreat to provide the vouchers for the competition went down really well with the members who might use the vouchers themselves rather than give it to their better half.Unlike the last few competitions there was a clear winner in this one with the newly crowned individual champion Paddy Malone (13) the only perdson in the field to break the 40 point barrier with 21 points for the front and 22 for the back for a winning total of 43. There weretwo players tied with 39 points with Ollie Martin with 23 for the back nine taking second spot ahead of Padraig Fallon who was third. David Pilkington won the gross. The front nine went to Raymond Flynn with 23 on the countback from Brendan Byrne wiith the back nine won by James Coburn with 19 points. There is a 3 category singles stableford next weekend

 PADDY MALONE IS MATCHPLAY CHAMPION

The final of the mens singles matchplay was held on Monday evening last. It was a flat match between 13 handicappers Paddy Malone and Anthony Hillen. Paddy got off to a terrific start going 5 up early on but by the time they had finished the sixteenth there was only one hole in it as Anthony staged a great comeback Another birdie at 17 from Paddy closed out the match and put paid to the gallant effort from the loser to claw back from the early deficit as Paddy rattled in three early birdies to open up the early advantage. It has been a great year thus far for Paddy as he continues to clim down the handicap ladder.

The good weather on Friday certainly brought out the visitors in numbers for the Friday open

With two holes remaining it was all to play for with three tied for the money. A bad seventeenth put Jim on the back foot with the extra shot for Noel at the last making the telling difference to relegated Larry into second place. Noel (24) won with 45 points one better than Larry (20) who had 44 and Jim (19) third on 42 with the hatchet chopping 3, 2 and one shots respectively off the handicaps
