Miceal Wins Again
Recent singles matchplay winner Miceal McGuinness won the prizewinners day kindly sponsored by Gerry McShane of Trinity Print, Carlingford. The singles Stableford competition for all the winners throughout the year was very competitive with a host of players within two points of each other. Miceal McGuinness a triple winner going into this competition emerged the overall winner following a countback with Raymond Martin. Both players shot 42 points, 21 on each nine with the breakdown down to the last two holes needed to determine the winner. Seamus McGivern with 24 on the back nine took third spot ahead of Mark Hughes after they both returned a score of 40 points. The trio were presented with some beautiful framed pictures of the course commissioned and produced by Gerry who is an active member of the committee.
Indeed 40 points was the magical figure needed to win the singles Stableford competition for those members not engaged in the winner’s competition. It was a first win in nearly four years for Benny Tierney as he saw off Tony Fenton who finished as runner-up.
Sunday next will see the sextet of Michael McGuinness, Jim McKay, Frank Quinn, Raymond Martin, Mark Hughes and Joe Hazzard tee-off at 9am to play for the gold medal as all had been previous silver medal winners over the past few months. Unfortunately one medal winner Vincie Gorman is still recovering from his severe hand injury and will not be back in action until the New Year.
On Sunday for those not involved in the Medal Final there will be a 3 person rumble. If you want to play in the rumble there will be a 9-30 draw for playing partners.
After next weekend the race to put the Christmas dinner on the table will begin with the Turkey competitions. Members can play either Saturday or Sunday or both if they wish.
The Annual presentation night in the clubhouse will be held on Saturday November 24 with music by Charlie. The Annual General meeting will take place on Monday November 26 at 8-30 sharp.
