Cloverhill Golf Club - Glory For Steve and Ann

The October Medal was contested in very heavy underfoot conditions but it did not stop some very good scoring with all members trying to grab the last spot to join the other 7 winners in the final for the Gold Medal on Sunday Oct 16.

It was a straight fight between playing partners Steve O Hara (11) and Ciaran Crummie (20) for the winners rostrum after both shot nett 62 with Steve getting the verdict. The first of the fourballs in the Gold Medal final at 10-30am Stephen O Hara (October), Gavin McErlean (May), Christopher Reel (March), Paul Kelly (April) and is followed by the second at 10-45am Mark Conlon.(September), Seamus McParland (August), Christopher Lynch (June) and Paddy Malone (July).

Lady Captain Ann McGivern was the winner of Charlie O Hare's ladies Presidents Prize with a return of 35 points. The win also had special significance for Ann as it sealed her place as Lady Golfer of the Year 2011.

One of the biggest competitions of the year the Free Subs will take place next Sunday with the full timesheet reflecting the bonus of free membership for 2012 which is kindly put up by Colin.

The Seniors played. their final 18 hole singles stableford on Thursday morning before reverting to their league and then onto their turkey competitions. The Section One winner was Sean Conroy from Seamus McCoy with Noel Magill winning Section Two as Turlough O Brien finished in the runner-up spot.

The Juveniles in order to keep their competitions going will meet up at 1pm on Saturdays over the course of the Winter .

The Friday Open saw the early morning starters benefit as many of the mid morning starters fell victims to the torrential rain. It was Joe Carroll who taxied home in first place with 41 points in a Dundalk 1-2-3 as Andrew Brodigan finished second and Sean Conroy third. Members are reminded that Winter Work on course improvements will commence at the end of October to the following holes 5 (left side of green)- 6 (tee-box to remove internal O.U.B)- 8 (G.U.R area to right of hole)- 9 (elevate Green)- 10 (re-shape front bunker & fill in bunker at back of hole)- 12(re-shape Green surround) & 14 ( New 3 Tier Green). Tree transplanting will also take place in designated areas.
