Cloverhill Golf Club - March Medal

The first of the eight monthly medal competitions attracted a great entry as a follow on to last weeks turnout for the Drive-in.  The early pace was set by Ivan Whelan (18) who was the clubhouse leader with a nett 68.The battle in one fourball ended even as Mickey Concannon (8) and Jim McKay (6) came in with 67’s to take the lead. Joe Hazzard (18) matched the leading score before Brendan Hughes (21) went into the lead with a 66. It was not until the last two cards were returned that Colm Trainor (19) matched Brendan’s score of 66 but lost out on the countback with Mickey in third place. So Brendan becomes the March Medal winner and the first to qualify for the Gold medal final in October.

The Seniors are hardy souls as they braved the arctic conditions on Thursday for their first 18 hole competition of the season. The wind and showers of sleet kept scoring low with Gerry McShane and Anthony Murphy sharing the low section.  The high section was won by Peter McCreesh with Oliver McDonald in second place
