Cloverhill Golf Club - Back in the Final

Sam Rutherford title holders Cloverhill are back in the final following their comprehensive semi-final victory over Banbridge. In coming away from Banbridge with a 9 hole lead Joe Pilkington's team had given themselves a great cushion to start the home leg with. There was no messing about with Cloverhill quickly putting the match mathematically beyond their opponents in clinical fashion. The defending champions will face Mannan Castle winners over Omagh in their semi-final in the final at dates to be arranged home and away.

The club would like to wish club members Stevie McDonnell, Mickey Concannon and Jim McKay who are part of the Killeavy team who will represent Armagh and Ulster in the final of the Dunhill FBD All-Ireland Golf Challenge at Faithlegg House Hotel & Golf Club, Co. Waterford on September 12th and 13th . Ulster winners Killeavy will be joined in the final by former champions Claremorris of Mayo, Dublin outfit St Jude's, and Tipperary’s Clonoulty-Rossmore, in the All-Ireland Final. The International flavor to the competition will be added by Wolfe Tones ‘B’ of Chicago who retained their Chicago title and the New York winners who have yet to be announced leaving 6 teams vying for this very prestigious title.

The poor weather did not dampen the enthusiasm for the August Monthly Medal competition. Barry McKeown (28) set the early target with a level par 69 but was soon knocked off top spot by young Christopher McKay (20) who had a nett 66. Christopher was demoted to second in the countback when Steve O Hara (14) matched his three under par score. But it was Brendan Hughes (20) who delivered the goods as he posted a 6 under par nett 63 to qualify for the gold medal final in October.

The penultimate Newry Crash Repair 9 hole competition saw Colin Pilkington with 21 pts sneak in under the radar for the Sunday Sept 6 18 hole final.. The last qualifying place is up for grabs this week off the back nine white tees.

Blockbusters are the kind sponsors of next weekends competition which can be played on Sat or Sun.
