Cloverhill Golf Club - Big Turn Out For Winter League

There was a huge turnout over the weekend for the penultimate round of the Winter League. The mild weather and a bit of curiosity to get a glimpse at all the development work certainly left it a very busy Sunday with scoring to match the conditions. It was Colin Pilkington (4) with a 6 birdie burst over the twelve holes who was this weeks winner with 32 points giving him one to spare over a trio who finished in the following order Stephen Markey (9) second, Liam Harte (13) third and Benny Tierney (7) fourth. Next week is the last week of the league when the individual and team honors will be decided.
Counting off the best 4 cards returned to date there is all to play for in the individual competition. Benny Tierney and Liam Harte are both on 119 points. Anthony Hillen and Brendan Byrne both have 117. John Byrne has 116 with Stephen Markey next on 115.

The team event is a two horse race with Brendan Tierney, Anthony Hillen, Seamus McCoy, Raymond Flynn, Seamus Keenan and Brendan Heaney leading with a total of 667 points only 4 clear of Stephen Campbell, Stephen Markey, Brendan Byrne, Larry O Rourke, Liam Harte and James Coburn.

The increased membership has contributed to larger numbers for the seniors on a Thursday and the crack has multiplied as has the competitiveness. A fourball better ball was the order of the day last Thursday with three teams finishing the 12 holes on 33 points. As is customary in the Seniors the prizemoney is shared with Club Captain John Byrne and partner Fr Kevin Cullen, already deprived of all the winnings by playing opponents Charlie O Hare and Heber McMahon only for Raymond Kelly (third week in a row) and partner Brendan Brown to ensure a three way split of the lolly. A singles stableford will take place this Thursday.
