Cloverhill Golf Club - Barry Shows No Wedding Nerves

Barry McKeown (18) even in the company of the priest showed no pre wedding nerves as was the overall winner of the 3 category singles stableford competition held over the weekend. Barry returned a winning total of 45 points and is down to 16 with club members slagging him, that he may get the golf in now, as once the ring goes on ,his fairway time will be well curtailed.

The low section 0-12 was won by Daniel Hughes (11) with 43 points from Paul Owens (9) 42 pts and Colin McParland (12) third on 41.The middle section 13-20 was won with 42 points by Seamus McGivern (20) with Raymond Kelly (15) second on 41 with Peter Fallon (16) third with 40. Vice-Captain Brian Ryan (22) took the honours in the high section 21-28 with 42 points it was another club officer, treasurer Raymond Martin (21) with 40 points who filled second spot ahead of third placed Peter Smyth (25) who had 39. Next weekend sees the April Medal competition taking place with the Seamus McCoy sponsored Major on Sunday April 17.

The first of the 18 hole competitions for the Seniors was held in very windy conditions on Thursday. Conditions did not stop Raymond Kelly from taking the honours with Joe Hazzard in second place. Third spot was shared by Seamus McCoy and Vincie Gorman. These newcomers to the Seniors ranks are already leaving their mark as well as sharing in the apple tart. There is a 3 man Scramble in the book for this Thursday.

The Juveniles played 12 holes again on Friday after school and produced a first time winner in Cormac Smyth whose practice is paying off followed by Gareth Kilgallon in second place. There will be another competition this week. There will be a couple of competitions organized over the Easter holidays. All juvenile members are reminded that free group coaching from PGA Professional Joe Frawley will be available at 5pm on Tuesday's commencing April 13. PGA Professional Joe Frawley will begin his lessons at Cloverhill on Tuesday April 13. Lessons will be available every Tuesday and can be booked at the clubhouse.

The Friday Open Competition commenced last week and attracted a good sprinkling of players from neighbouring clubs. It was local knowledge which led the way early in the day but it would have needed divine intervention to keep Fr Cullen in the lead with his return of 36 points. Chris Blackmore (6) out of Dundalk Golf Club shot into the lead with 39 points but was pipped late in the day by Pearse Murphy (24) who produced his best ever round of 44 points to take first place ahead of the aforementioned duo who filled the minor places. The Friday Open £10 or €12 continues every Friday until the end of October . There will be an Open 3 Person Scramble £30 per team on Sat April 16 and an Open 3 Person Team £30 per team on Easter Monday April 25. Tee times must be booked Tel 30889374 or 30889580
