Cloverhill Golf Club - Jimmy Bruen Leading Qualifers
The current well being of golf at the club was enhanced by the performance of our Jimmy Bruen team who emerged as leading qualifiers at Kilkeel. The team of Colin Pilkington, Daniel Hughes, Michael McEntegart, Miceal McGuinness, Benny Tierney, Paul Owens, Mickey Concannon, Sean Campbell, Jim McKay and Joe Mackin returned a best 4 card score of 336 to finish ahead of Kilkeel (340), Mannan Castle (342) and Warrenpoint (345).
Cloverhill qualified for the knock-out stages last year where they were put out by eventual Ulster champions Cavan. The knock-out this time sees us take on Warrenpoint at Kilkeel with Kilkeel playing Mannan Castle at Warrenpoint with the respective winners meeting to see who wins a place in the quarter finals. The target has been now set for the Pierce Purcell team in qualifying action at Portadown on Sunday next.
The weekend 3 person Rumble proved very popular and brought a couple of players to the winners enclosure for the first time. Barry McKeown and Liam Moan were the said players who teamed up with Paddy Malone to return a winning score of 92 points. Second place with 89 points belonged to the McGivern family with dad Seamus teaming up with sons Conor and Ryan. A singles stableford will take place next weekend.
The Seniors on Thursday held a Rumble with Jim McDonnell, Brendan Brown and Peter McCreesh taking the honors. The first round of the most prestigious trophy in the seniors’ cabinet The Maritime Trophy takes place next week with everyone seeking a good start in the first of 5 rounds of this competition. The draw for the Seniors matchplay competitions will take place after the golf on Thursday.
The Crash Repair Cup 9 hole midweek competition saw Seamus McGivern reach the August final with his return of 21 points a winning total. This weeks 9 hole competition will be played off the front nine green markers.

St Joseph’s High Scholl will be once again hosting their Annual Golf Classic at Cloverhill on Saturday May 16.
