Cloverhill Golf Club - Fourball better ball
The fourball better ball weekend competition was a closely contested affair with some very good scores returned. A clatter of 41 points was displaced when Jim Conroy (14) and Paul McCourt (15) came in with 43 points to take the clubhouse lead. The leaders were then topped with a return of 45 points, 22 out 23 home from Frank Quinn (9) and Mark Hughes (14) in a round that produced 5 birdies. The clubhouse lead looked safe until the second last group in produced the winners. Three birdies in the back nine helped taxi Joe Macken (11) and Noel Magill (20) cross the finish line in first place with a total of 46 points, 22 out 24 in. Because of the club classic there is no competition over Easter weekend.
CLUB CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND
The prizes for the Open 3 person team event over the Easter weekend Sat 11, Sun 12 & Monday 13 April are proving a definite attraction with the timesheets on Saturday and Monday particularly busy. Team of 3 any combination costs £60. Newry Crash Repair Centre is the main sponsors. The Ulster Fourball team will play Temple at home 12 noon on Sunday April 19 and the away leg in Temple at the same time the following week. The Crash Repair Cup 9 hole midweek competition will commence on Monday April 20 with the front nine holes off the white markers in use. The competition will run for a total of 18 weeks with alternate nines of white and green markers being used. The 18 winners will then play in an 18 hole competition on Wednesday August 26 for the Crash Repair Cup. A request from members to broaden the competition now allows play on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of any particular week.
The Seniors on Thursday held an 18 hole stableford competition. The low section winner was Seamus Tumilty with Charlie O Hare in second place. In the high section Oliver McDonald visited the winners enclosure ahead of Brendan Browne. Next week is a three person scramble.
