The biggest day in the club calendar is now upon us next Sunday with club Captain Peter Byrne hosting his captains prize. The full timesheet for the 27 hole competition is testimony to the popular Peter whose magnificent array of prizes has all member vying to capture something on the biggest competition of the year. To help with the smooth running of the day all members are asked to be in attendance long before their scheduled tee-time.
There was no minding the handicaps the week before Captains Day judging by the score returned in the Sunday stableford competition played off the Green sticks. Having become the first man through to the last 8 of the singles matchplay Vice-captain Nial Smyth (16) who is in terrific form at present produced the goods again on Sunday with a terrific 48 points. Nial needed every one of them to hold of Miceal McGuinness (13) who had 46 pts two ahead of Raymond Flynn (18) and Daniel Hughes (17). The leading quartet will have to adjust to their new handicaps for next Sundays big test.
The Wednesday Cup off the front nine White markers saw James Hanratty make a return to the winners enclosure with 20 points good enough to qualify for the Crash Repair Cup Final. Next Wed is off the back nine Green markers.
The Sam Rutherford team was in action on Sunday away at Ringduffrin in the first leg of their quarter final match. Played in wet windy conditions the team did very well to come away 5 holes down for the return leg at Cloverhill where they will have to produce their best golf to reach the last four.
The Junior Cowdy team will face Mannan Castle July 27 (home) and Aug 3 (away) for a place in the semi-final of that competition.
JUVENILE SUMMER COMPETITIONS COMMENCE ON TUESDAY
Tuesday July 8 at 11-30 will see the commencement of the summer competitions for juvenile members. From Tuesday July 15 and every Tuesday through the summer there will be juvenile lessons for club members only. The juveniles will be split up according to age for the lessons with the various age groups given a specified time for their lesson.
The club wants to build on the success enjoyed by our current juveniles on the inter-club scene where the structure of the juveniles having their own Captain and committee to look after their own affairs has worked well. Miceal McGuinness is the current juvenile captain.
The juveniles are in Craigavon Cup action on Wednesday at home to Loughgall. The Ronan Rafferty quarter final with Tandragee will take place on July 26 (home) and July 27 (away)

The club will host an Open 3 Person Scramble on Monday July 14 at 30 per team (visitors). Tee times can be booked Tel 30 889374.
