Cloverhill Golf Club - Three T's

The Three T's prevention against suicide competition as usual attracted a big field of competitors for this sought after qualifier which also helps a very good cause. The in-form man at the minute Shane Grant kept up his good run as his 43 points jumped him into the lead ahead of Jim Conroy whose 41 had cleared a dozen on the 40 point mark. It was rugby playing Dundalk man Paddy Malone who came out of the pack to snatch victory after a return of 43 points. Paddy won on the countback with the better back nine with 23 points to Shane's 21.

The club singles matchplay has only got 5 players remaining. Shane Grant awaits the winner of the Seamus McGivern versus John McShane quarter final with Sean Campbell facing Mark Keogh for a place in the final. Indeed Sean could be in line for the double as he partners club Captain Nial Smyth in the pairs final against Steve O Hara and Colm Traynor.

On Thursday the seniors singles stableford saw Brendan Brown win section two from Brian Ryan. Gerry McShane was the section one winner from Pius Tierney and Anthony Murphy. Thursday next sees another round of the Maratime Trophy taking place.

The juveniles continue on Tuesday with the competition for Golfer of the Year hotting up between leading contenders Caomhan Downey and Conor Hoey. The due were first and second this week with Caomhan coming out on top. Christopher Lynch was third with Dominic Kealey fourth. There will be another competition this week. On Wednesday next a team of 6 juveniles will travel to Banbridge to partake in their prestigious stroke play team competition.

The quest for the last few places in the Newry Crash Repair Cup is certainly taking out the golfers and the scores. The front nine off the green markers saw three players tie on 25 points. The father and son combination of Jim McKay and Christopher saw the sibling pip the dad only to be undone by a birdie at 8 from Colin Traynor which gave him 10 points over the back three holes to Christophers 9. The back nine green markers will host this weeks competition.
