Big Weekend Ahead!

What is seen as the signal for the golfing season to commence at most clubs occurs on Sunday next March 16 when Club Captain’s Peter Byrne and Anne Murphy will be hosting their drive-in  @ 8-30 followed by a shotgun start scramble for all members at 9 pm.  The popularity of our 2008 Captains can be gauged by the fact that the timesheet resembles that of an actual Captains Day with nearly every member eager to participate.

Once the drive-in Sunday is over the competitions begin in earnest with the first Golfer of the Year competition the March Monthly Medal taking place on March 30. The Easter week-end sees a singles Stableford on Easter Sunday while on Easter Monday there is an OPEN 3 person scramble £30 per team or £15 per team for club members. Tee-times can be reserved by tel-30 889374.

Despite the forecast for stormy weather there was a good turnout of members for the Foursomes competition. The battle for first place was an all Dundalk affair, a bit of a family affair also with two brothers in opposition as well as being a competition to see who could come up with the most competitive taxi fare to take the top prize.  A 2 under par nett 67 was good enough to take the honours for Paul McCourt and Brendan O Rourke ahead of Noel Magill and Larry O Rourke who finished level par. The early season form of new members the O Rourke brothers augurs well for the rest of the season as they have been regular competition entrants since joining the club.

On Thursday Fr Cullen took a giant step towards winning the Seniors Spring League by winning the penultimate round of the competition. Pius Tierney was runner-up while Brendan Brown and Peter McCreesh finished level in section two. The final round of the Seniors Spring league will take place this Thursday with the usual 10-30 start.
