Easter Weekend
The good weather over both holiday weekends certainly brought the golfers out from hibernation with the course very busy with members and green fees availing of the conditions.
The St Patrick’s Day singles Stableford competition was dominated by the club vice-captain Nial Smyth whose early season form has been impressive as that of runner-up Tony Fenton. Indeed the good showing from Tony was bettered on Easter Sunday when his return of 42 points was good enough to win the Easter Day competition a point ahead of second placed Frank Quinn.
On the social end of things the Texas Holdem poker classic was a great success with Gerry McShane standing tall at the conclusion having seen off Mark Hughes in the final head to head to take the top prize. Peter Byrne was third with Seamus McGivern and Jenny Mallon picking up two of the minor prizes. The club would like to thank all those who turned up to support the fundraiser and hope to see you all at the next one.
The opening golfer of the year competition the March monthly medal takes place next Sunday. Judging by the timesheet the time change has not affected the early starters who must be looking to go to Cross to see the football as there are a lot of names down who are 11 o clockers or there about.
The Seniors three person scramble on Thursday was won by Noel Williams, Peter McCreesh and Jim McDonnell from Pius Tierney, Brendan Brown and Frank Quinn. There will be an open seniors competition 50+ on April 17. Visitors - £8 Members - £3. Timesheet now available.
