Competitive Action for 2008
There will be plenty of competitive action for Cloverhill members for 2008 with the club taking part in no fewer than 11 inter-club competitions governed by both the GUI and Cowdy associations. Teams will take part in the Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen, Ulster fourball, Pierce Purcell and Irish mixed run by the GUI. Under the Cowdy INTER Club Golf Association the club will field teams in the Junior Cowdy, Rossmore Cup, Ronan Rafferty, Sam Rutherford Memorial, Jack Craig Mixed Foursomes and the Cowdy Senior (60+). Lots of early season action for all members as those competitions cover all handicap ranges. The early rounds of those competitions take place in April and May.
The full club fixtures for 2008 have been finalised and can be found on the website. The three most important dates on the calendar are Captains Day (Peter Byrne) July 13, Lady Captains Day (Ann Murphy) Aug 23 and Presidents Day (Seamus McCoy) Sept 14.
The second week of the four week eclectic competition saw Nial Smyth, Colin McParland and Sean Campbell close the gap significantly on joint leaders Mark Keogh and Mickey Concannon on his tail with a host of others in hot pursuit.
Names are now being taken for the 4 week individual Spring League which will be held in February. Players can play any day during the week once their card is signed by a fellow member of the competition. There will be 3 different sections in the Spring league with one winner and runner-up in each section receiving prizes. The three sections are 0-13, 14-20 and 21-28.
The treasurer has told me to remind all members that the 2008 GUI and Insurance fee is now due.
